A colleague found this interesting article about kosens in Japan.  Click the title to go to the article.

"With Workplace Training, Japan's Kosen Colleges Bridge Skills Gap"

It's worth noting that Kanazawa Technical College is a private kosen, where I believe those referred to in this article are public.  This means there is a difference in tuition and also school management regulations.  However, our school does have an impressive employment rate, and in fact, it was just announced that already 50% of our fifth year students have job offers for after graduation.  On the flip side, I have heard some students complain about the lack of choice in this process.  They feel they must take the jobs set up for them by the school and don't have the freedom to search and apply for their own positions.  I'm not sure how much this rings true or what the faculty's perspective is, but I think it's important to acknowledge student perspectives.
